Download GBIF records, clean them, extract bioclimatic, climate and soil variables, explore them with statistics and multivariate methods and model the species distribution with MaxEnt and nine more algorithms, an ensemble and projections to climate scenarios. Guided, interpreted and with nothing to install.
Cómo funcionaHow it works
A guided route in the order a distribution study really runs. Each step explains the idea, checks whether your data can support it and takes you to the next.
Nothing here is an animation. The app creates a landscape with two environmental variables and a species whose niche you know, «samples» presences (with or without bias) and estimates suitability with real algorithms. You see how close each estimated map gets to the truth.

Cómo citarHow to cite
Buscar la especie en GBIF o subir tus registrosSearch the species in GBIF or upload your records
Resuelve el nombre científico y descarga los registros de presencia con coordenadas, o carga los tuyos (especie, longitud, latitud).Resolve the scientific name and download the presence records with coordinates, or load your own (species, longitude, latitude).
Type the scientific name (genus and epithet). GBIF will resolve the accepted name and its taxon key.
O sube tus propios registrosOr upload your own records
Not everything is in GBIF. Upload a CSV, TXT or Excel (.xlsx) file with at least three columns: species, longitude and latitude (decimal degrees; degrees-minutes-seconds are read too). You can use it alone or add it to the GBIF records. The optional columns country, state, locality, year, month, elevation and uncertainty are recognised automatically.
O pega tus datos desde ExcelOr paste your data from a spreadsheet
Filtrar los registrosFilter the records
By taxonomic rank, country, year, record type and bounding box.
Cada faceta muestra el número de registros. Los cambios se aplican al instante. Each facet shows the number of records. Changes apply instantly.
Filtro por estado o regiónFilter by state or region
The app ships the 32 states of Mexico and assigns the state of each record from its coordinates (point-in-polygon test), which also completes the records that arrive from GBIF with no state. If you prefer, use the text of the «state» field as it comes, normalising the usual spellings and abbreviations. You can also load your own region layer (municipalities, watersheds, protected areas…) as GeoJSON.
Define a latitude and longitude rectangle to keep only the records inside it, or draw it on the map.

Variables ambientales en cada puntoEnvironmental variables at each point
19 variables bioclimáticas y altitud, clima de Köppen-Geiger y tipo de suelo.19 bioclimatic variables and elevation, Köppen-Geiger climate and soil type.
Se extraen los valores ráster en las — coordenadas depuradas: 19 variables bioclimáticas y altitud (WorldClim 2.1), clima de Köppen-Geiger y tipo de suelo (SoilGrids).Raster values are extracted at the — cleaned coordinates: 19 bioclimatic variables and elevation (WorldClim 2.1), Köppen-Geiger climate and soil type (SoilGrids).
1) Capas ráster (GeoTIFF de WorldClim y Köppen)1) Raster layers (WorldClim and Köppen GeoTIFF)
Las instrucciones de descarga están en datos/LEE-ME.md.There are three ways to load the layers. The files are read on your computer and never uploaded. Download instructions are in datos/LEE-ME.md.
Pick the whole folder (for example worldclim); the app takes only the .tif files it recognises.
Archivos .tif sueltosIndividual .tif files
Select several files at once (Ctrl or Shift + click): the 19 bioclimatic layers, elevation and, if you like, Köppen.
Whatever sits in the program's datos/ folder: WorldClim at 10 arc-minutes, downloaded once (see datos/LEE-ME.md), and Köppen-Geiger, which is bundled. Needs the local server.

Correlación y selección de variablesCorrelation and variable selection
Detect collinearity and decide which variables the statistics, the machine learning and the models will use.
The bioclimatic variables are strongly correlated with each other (e.g. BIO10 with BIO8, or BIO16 with BIO13). A regression model (GLM, GAM) becomes unstable with nearly redundant variables; tree methods, SVM and MaxEnt tolerate it better, but the importance of each variable gets shared. That is why the app proposes a low-collinearity subset, but the decision is yours: you can pin variables you consider important even if they are correlated (for example BIO1, annual mean temperature, and BIO12, annual precipitation) and see at once what your choice does. What you choose here becomes the default selection of steps 7, 8 and 9, where you can still change it.
Variables: elige cuáles usarVariables: choose which to use
Use: goes on to the next steps. 📌 Pin: the recommended selection will never drop it, even if it is correlated. VIF and maximum correlation are computed with the variables you have ticked and update instantly. VIF < 5 is low, 5–10 moderate and > 10 high.
Ordered by hierarchical clustering (the tree on the left groups variables that behave alike). Blue = negative correlation, orange = positive; bold names are the variables you have selected. Click a cell to see the pair and decide which one to keep.
Pares muy correlacionadosHighly correlated pairs
Estadística descriptiva y normalidadDescriptive statistics and normality
The computation runs in Python inside your browser. Variables a analizarVariables to analyse
Métodos multivariados y análisis ecológicoMultivariate methods and ecological analysis
PCA, agrupamiento, análisis de correspondencias y métricas de nicho y distribución.PCA, clustering, correspondence analysis and niche and range metrics.
Cálculo en Python dentro del navegador.Computed in Python inside the browser.
Variables continuas para PCA y agrupamientoContinuous variables for PCA and clustering
By default the selection you made in step 6 is used. You can add others even if collinear: PCA and clustering tolerate redundancy and a collinear variable is sometimes the key to interpretation.

Modelado de distribución de especies (SDM)Species distribution modelling (SDM)
MaxEnt y otros nueve algoritmos, validación, ensamble, mapas y proyección a escenarios.MaxEnt and nine more algorithms, validation, ensemble, maps and projection to scenarios.
Model habitat suitability with MaxEnt and other algorithms, validate them, combine them into an ensemble and project maps (also to other climate scenarios). Computed in Python inside the browser. It uses the raster layers loaded in step 5; for a fine grid use WorldClim at 2.5 arc-minutes or 30 arc-seconds.
Variables predictorasPredictor variables
By default the selection you made in step 6 is used; you can add any other (MaxEnt, GLM and the tree algorithms tolerate some collinearity, but interpret the response curves with care).
The background (pseudo-absences) is sampled in cells within R km of any record (accessible area). Maps are computed over the bounding box of the records enlarged by a margin, or over the extent you choose (for example all of Mexico): the model is also projected to areas far from the records, where the prediction is an extrapolation (the MESS map flags it).
Agroclimatic indices, crop suitability, planting calendar and change in suitability under future climate.
The agroclimatic indices are computed month by month, so they need minimum and maximum temperature and precipitation for the 12 months (WorldClim 2.1: 36 files wc2.1_<res>_tmin_01.tif …, or 12-band files). If you do not have them, the app can derive a reduced set of indices from the 19 bioclimatic layers of step 5; those indices are flagged as approximate.
Pick the folder where you unzipped tmin, tmax and prec; it may hold all three.
Archivos .tif sueltosIndividual .tif files
Select several at once: the 12 months of each variable, or the 12-band files.
Derivar de las bioclimáticasDerive from the bioclimatic layers
Reconstructs a monthly cycle from BIO1, BIO2, BIO5, BIO6, BIO10, BIO11, BIO12, BIO15, BIO18 and BIO19 of step 5, reproducing BIO1, BIO5, BIO6 and BIO12 exactly. This is the route when you only have the bioclimatic layers.
Extensión y mallaExtent and grid
Cells are aggregated in f×f pixel blocks until the limit is met, so the grid always fits in memory and the computation is instant. Raise the limit for more detail.
