And none of that replaces in situ conservation, the only route in which the population keeps evolving where it belongs or in the field of whoever sows it. The simulator follows the accession for decades with two clocks running: the material one —lot germination from the Ellis and Roberts equation, living plants in the plot, jars in the laboratory, explants that regrow after thawing, or the size of the population at its site— and the genetic integrity one, because every bottleneck re-draws the allele frequencies and takes the rare alleles with it. If the route does not suit the species, the app says so and offers the one that does.

El pasaporte es lo que convierte un montón de sobres en una colección: quién es cada accesión, de dónde vino, quién la colectó y cómo se conserva. Aquí traes tu lista —de un archivo, de un pegado desde tu hoja de cálculo o desde cero—, la app reconoce tus columnas y las pone en los descriptores multicultivo de FAO/Bioversity (MCPD v2.1), revisa cada dato y te deja corregirlo. Lo que salga de aquí lo usan todos los bloques siguientes.Passport data is what turns a pile of envelopes into a collection: who each accession is, where it came from, who collected it and how it is conserved. Here you bring your list —from a file, from a spreadsheet paste or from scratch—, the app recognizes your columns and maps them onto the FAO/Bioversity multi-crop passport descriptors (MCPD v2.1), checks every value and lets you fix it. What comes out of here feeds every later block.

La validación sigue las reglas del estándar (formatos de fecha y de coordenadas, códigos de las listas, países en ISO alfa-3) y además compara campos entre sí: fechas en orden imposible, coordenadas que no concuerdan entre sus dos formatos, un estatus silvestre con una fuente de colecta de troje, un registro in situ sin sitio. Los errores hay que corregirlos; los avisos son datos que conviene completar o confirmar.Validation follows the rules of the standard (date and coordinate formats, code lists, ISO alpha-3 countries) and also compares fields with each other: dates in an impossible order, coordinates that disagree between their two formats, a wild status with a farm-store collecting source, an in-situ record with no site. Errors must be fixed; warnings are values worth completing or confirming.

El Bloque 2 revisa cada dato por separado; aquí se revisa lo que sólo se ve mirando toda la colección junta: la coordenada que cae en el mar porque la longitud perdió el signo, el género escrito de dos maneras, el sitio con tres ortografías y, sobre todo, la misma colecta entrada dos veces —o conservada en dos bancos sin que nadie lo sepa—. La app diagnostica y propone; aplicar o no, lo decides tú.Block 2 checks each value on its own; here the app checks what only shows when the whole collection is seen at once: the coordinate that lands in the sea because the longitude lost its sign, the genus spelled two ways, the site with three spellings and, above all, the same collection entered twice —or held in two genebanks without anyone knowing—. The app diagnoses and proposes; applying it is your call.

Tus accesiones en el mapa, dibujadas aquí mismo: los contornos vienen con la app, así que funciona igual sin internet y ninguna coordenada sale de tu computadora —que no es un detalle cuando se trata de sitios de parientes silvestres o de parcelas de familias custodias—. México se dibuja con sus 32 entidades y el resto del mundo con el contorno de los países. Colorea los puntos por lo que quieras, pinta una coropleta por entidad o por país, tira una rejilla encima y exporta la figura.Your accessions on a map, drawn right here: the outlines ship with the app, so it works the same offline and no coordinate leaves your computer —not a small thing when the sites belong to crop wild relatives or to custodian families—. Mexico is drawn with its 32 states and the rest of the world with country outlines. Una colección no vale por cuántos sobres tiene, sino por cuántas cosas distintas guarda, dónde están y cuánto falta por colectar. Aquí se calculan, para la unidad geográfica que elijas, la riqueza y los índices clásicos —Shannon, Gini-Simpson, equitatividad y los números de Hill—, la riqueza rarificada que hace justa la comparación entre un estado con treinta colectas y otro con tres, los estimadores de lo que no se ha colectado (Chao1, Chao2, jackknife) y la composición entre regiones, con su agrupamiento y su prueba de Mantel.A collection is not worth what it holds in envelopes but in distinct things, where they are and how much is still to be collected. Here, for whatever geographic unit you choose, the app computes richness and the classic indices —Shannon, Gini-Simpson, evenness and the Hill numbers—, the rarefied richness that makes it fair to compare a state with thirty collections against one with three, the estimators of what has not been collected (Chao1, Chao2, jackknife) and the composition between regions, with its clustering and its Mantel test.

Dónde no has colectado, a dónde conviene ir la próxima vez y qué material ya tienes pero podrías perder. La app tira una rejilla sobre el territorio, marca las celdas vacías, calcula a qué distancia les queda la colecta más cercana y las ordena con un índice de prioridad cuyos cuatro componentes puedes pesar como quieras. Aparte, revisa los vacíos que no se ven en un mapa: tipos con una sola accesión, sin duplicado de seguridad, sólo en banco de campo o sólo in situ.Where you have not collected, where to go next time, and which material you already hold but could lose. The app throws a grid over the territory, marks the empty cells, works out how far the nearest collection lies and ranks them with a priority index whose four components you can weight as you like. Separately, it reviews the gaps a map cannot show: types with a single accession, with no safety duplicate, only in a field collection or only in situ.
Bloque 7 · Caracterización y colección núcleoBlock 7 · Characterization and core collection
Lo que se mide de cada accesión —días a floración, altura, color del grano, hábito— casi nunca es homogéneo: hay números, categorías y celdas vacías. Todo este bloque está hecho para esa mezcla. Calcula la variación descriptor por descriptor, la distancia de Gower entre accesiones, sus coordenadas principales y su agrupamiento, y con eso arma una colección núcleo que puedas caracterizar a fondo o evaluar en campo sin mover todo el banco. Al final comprueba, con los criterios de Hu et al., que el núcleo de verdad representa a la colección.What is measured on each accession —days to flowering, height, grain colour, growth habit— is hardly ever homogeneous: there are numbers, categories and empty cells. This whole block is built for that mixture. It computes the variation trait by trait, the Gower distance between accessions, their principal coordinates and their clustering, and with that it builds a core collection you can characterize in depth or evaluate in the field without moving the whole genebank. Finally it checks, with the Hu et al. criteria, that the core really represents the collection.

El simulador de la portada seguía a una accesión imaginaria; esto hace lo mismo con tus lotes. Con la última prueba de germinación, las existencias y las condiciones de tu cámara, la ecuación de viabilidad proyecta en qué porcentaje anda hoy cada lote y cuántos años le quedan; el resto son alertas de trabajo —pruebas vencidas, existencias bajas, subcultivos y resiembras atrasados, accesiones sin respaldo— ordenadas por urgencia, con las calculadoras de tamaño de muestra y la carga de trabajo de los próximos años.The home-page simulator followed an imaginary accession; this does the same with your lots. From the last germination test, the stock and your store conditions, the viability equation projects where each lot stands today and how many years it has left; the rest are working alerts —overdue tests, low stock, late subcultures and replantings, accessions with no backup— sorted by urgency, with the sample-size calculators and the workload for the years ahead.
Bloque 9 · Etiquetas y registroBlock 9 · Labels and register
Lo que sale del banco lleva papel: la etiqueta pegada al sobre, al frasco, a la estaca o al criotubo, y la hoja que acompaña al material. Aquí se imprime todo eso a la medida real, en milímetros, con un código de barras Code 128 de verdad —no unas rayas decorativas— que cualquier lector de mano descifra, y que la propia suite de pruebas vuelve a leer para comprobar que está bien dibujado. Además de las etiquetas, salen la lista de siembra para la regeneración, el vale de distribución y el libro de registro de la colección.Whatever leaves the genebank carries paper: the label stuck to the envelope, the jar, the field stake or the cryovial, and the sheet that travels with the material. All of that is printed here at real size, in millimetres, with a genuine Code 128 barcode —not decorative stripes— that any handheld reader decodes, and that the test suite reads back to check it is drawn correctly. Besides labels, you get the sowing list for regeneration, the delivery note and the collection register book.
Bloque 10 · El informeBlock 10 · The report
Todo lo que los nueve bloques anteriores calcularon, reunido en un documento que se lee solo: las cifras, las figuras y los métodos redactados en prosa, con los ajustes que de verdad se usaron, listos para pegarse en el informe anual o en un artículo. Sólo aparece lo que se corrió —lo que no, no se inventa— y las referencias que salen son únicamente las de los métodos empleados. La vista previa de abajo no es una aproximación: es el archivo mismo. Y el pasaporte sale en los dos idiomas de los datos, MCPD para hablar con otros bancos y Darwin Core para hablar con GBIF.Everything the previous nine blocks computed, gathered into a document that stands on its own: the numbers, the figures and the methods written out in prose, with the settings actually used, ready to paste into the annual report or a paper. Only what was run appears —what was not is not invented— and the references listed are only those of the methods employed. The preview below is not an approximation: it is the file itself. And the passport is exported in both languages of the data, MCPD to talk to other genebanks and Darwin Core to talk to GBIF.
